Nothing quite compares

CountermelodiesWhen it begins,
it’s like discovering
the decadence of music.
Perhaps your breath hitches
on the cello carrying the countermelody.
It reminds you of their voice,
as they warm spices in the kitchen
and you’d wrap your arms around them from behind,
like the horns come up from under
and saturate the harmony.
Their body feels familiar in all different ways,
a second listen granted to a beautiful movement.

You can’t tell them you repeat
the first song they showed you
because it smells like their skin
If you listen close enough.
And they can’t tell you that
they try to harmonize with your
speaking voice on the phone

Emerald leaves, orange light,
Swaying bluebells, pink clouds,
Rustling trees, calling birds,
In the stillness of the forest.

We wandered from the gravel path,
Careful where we trod,
Not to crush the innocent flowers,
That tinted a fine fragrance.

Past the great oak,
Beyond the pine and beech,
Our fingers entwined together,
My hand locked safely in his.

Great gorges and steep cliffs,
We passed before an opening,
Where light shone through gracefully,
Catching on mysterious forms.

The rosebay willowherb seeds
Floated and waltzed effortlessly
Through the air and caugh

A Lack of EloquenceYou told me you wanted to be a writer someday
And I couldn't help but wonder if you'd ever written about me
I went home and tried to write something beautiful about you
But I couldn't find the words
I don't know how to describe the kindness in your eyes
Or the way your voice sends shivers down my spine
Or how you linger in my dreams at night
No matter how I string my words together
They never quite seem to do you justice
You must forgive me for my lack of eloquence
And understand all the things I'm trying to tell you
When at last, for all my trying, the only words I have are these:
"I love you, I love you, I love you"

Experience the bittersweet beauty.

BeautySmiling into the sunshine I go,
the warm rays on my face as I walk.
The world around me is vibrant,
every color rushing to meet my gaze.
The world seems as if it is waiting for me,
opening its beauty to my eyes.
A drop of water touches my face,
from the sky they fall,
bringing out new color and life.
I sit in the rain as around me it falls.
I would try to find the most beautiful things,
but you are the most beautiful thing of all.

It hurtIt hurt you know,
Falling for you.

I felt very bump and bang,
Every bruise and break.
I tried to hold on,
I tried to slow down,
I tried to stop.
But it was inevitable.
Gravity was too much,
It kept pulling me down
To you.

And when I landed,
When I hit the ground
At your feet
I could barely breathe.
It was too much
For anyone to handle
Let alone me.

But I watched you reach down,
And felt you pick me up.
You gathered together
All my broken pieces
And worked for days
Making me whole again.

It took time
But I finally realised

So once I was rebuilt

If I weren't an awful songwriter
I'd write you a song for every day of the year.
They'd be only to make you smile
And forget every worry in the world
Just to listen and float
In the cloud of words
Put together just to swirl around your head and in your dreams

I'm not one for poetry either,
Though I've tried my best once or twice
But I suck, its really bad
Makes me so sore I could sleep on ice
There, a rhyme
Though poetry doesn't require it
Listen to me ramble
about stupid facts, three words at a time

I wish I could create something beautiful
"Seasons may change,
Winter to spring, But I love you
Until the end of time."
But I can't. I'm an artist of jumbled things
Block paragraphs that are only ever broken by speech
Listening to love songs never helped
I'd just stick them in my words
A nod off
So to speak

I guess this counts as poetry
Really. Free verse I think?
But its up to you
This is for you after all
My darling, my baby
A cute and fluffy bunny
You know who you are.
The point of this is to make you smile
After shitty days and shitty weeks
Ending in shitty nights

You always make me smile
With a little card or note
Works like a charm
I only hope that what I do for a living can help you
Now, as you're absent from my life
Even for a few minutes
My heart is missing its best part
The part that belongs to you.

Lyrical, yet flat mumbling around my mouth
Flowing from my fingers
Statements, not too long
All with around one end in mind
Whether you reach it or not depends
Often you end up a million miles away
With lines that made sense a minute ago,
But now are quite a puzzle
